Hello, There Again: Ewan McGregor and the Future of Obi-Wan ✨

Plus Celebration badge art and a big week of Star Wars news!

Good Morning Youtinians. Last week, we wanted to know which score you were most excited to hear more about on the upcoming Disney+ documentary Music By John Williams. Perhaps not surprisingly, Star Wars captured more than 78% of the vote, though many of you said you’d have voted for all of them if you could! We certainly can’t say we blame you.

Ewan McGregor Talks Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2!

Ewan McGregor sat down for an interview on stage at LA Comic Con earlier this month. He made a few statements that make us hopeful for more Obi-Wan Kenobi!

LA Comic Con: During McGregor’s interview, he discussed what Star Wars project(s) he hopes to continue working on. His number one answer was a possible second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

  • McGregor was careful not to confirm or deny any official plans to continue the show.

  • He discussed the aspects of Obi-Wan’s life and character that he would still like to explore.

  • He mentioned bringing Obi-Wan’s Clone Wars-era battle armor into live-action TV. That might open up the possibility of more flashbacks featuring Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker and possibly even Rosario Dawson or Ariana Greenblatt as Ahsoka.

The Future of Star Wars Television: Since the premiere of The Mandalorian in 2019, we have seen a lot of new Star Wars TV.

  • Through animation and live-action, there is now a long list of Star Wars shows to cater to any fan’s preferences.

  • With The Acolyte's recent cancellation and The Bad Batch's (incredible) end, there is a lull in new releases.

  • Hearing Ewan McGregor’s and Hayden Christensen’s enthusiasm about continuing to tell their characters’ stories is very encouraging, and hopefully, it sheds a bit of Light and Life on potential TV plans!

We're all fine here now — how are you? If nothing else, it seems certain Andor and The Mandalorian will continue.

TAKUMI’s Badge Art Revealed for Celebration 2025

Bendu tells us, “An object cannot make you good or evil,” but if the recently revealed badge art for the upcoming Star Wars Celebration Japan is anything to go by, these badges will make us superhuman!

What We Know: Star Wars fans have enjoyed the badges’ incredible artistic images of characters and places in a tradition dating back to the very first Celebration in Denver, Colorado.

What It Means: For each Celebration, an artist is invited to design and create the fantastic artwork on the badge's front.

  • In the past, we have had amazing badges from Grant Gould (2010), Chris Trevas and Brian Rood (2012), Craig Drake (2015), Paul Shipper (2017), Cristiano Siqueira (2019), Alice X. Zhang (2023) to name a few.

  • Each unique badge invariably becomes instantly collectible and is a must-have keepsake for all fans.

The Artist: The official badges are the brainchild of TAKUMI, who hails from Hokkaido in Northern Japan.

  • He has taken inspiration from the traditional Japanese woodblock printing style of “Ukiyo-e” and blended it with aspects of Japanese Anime.

  • In his interview, he explains his journey from an eight-year-old watching Episode IV to Star Wars Celebration Japan, his first.

  • He has not taken this honor lightly, explaining, “I poured my heart into these pieces with pure love, respect, and appreciation," and the results speak for themselves!

Why We're Excited: Youtinians have rejoiced in the early release of just five of the expected seventeen badges for the upcoming Star Wars Celebration Japan in 2025, and they are AWESOME!

We’re all fine here now - how are you? We at Youtini are super excited every time news drops about 2025’s Celebration, and we know you are too. With 2025 marking the 20th Anniversary of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, could the remaining badges pay homage to what many agree is the best movie ever? Let us know your thoughts, and join #sw-celebration on Discord.

There’s More! What a Week!

This has been a massive week for Star Wars news! In addition to Ewan dropping hints and amazing badge art, we've seen amazing rebukes, returns, releases, and reimaginings!

What Was Rebuked: Glamour Magazine recognized Jodie Turner-Smith as a Screen Trailblazer in their annual Women of the Year awards. In an interview with the magazine, she explained in detail the joy of working with Amandla Stenberg and how Amanda shared a character essay with her, which she loved!

  • Turner-Smith added, “She (Stenberg) put so much care and thought and love in that (character), and it’s disappointing to feel like your studio is not having your back in a very public-facing way.”

  • The article references The Acolyte's abrupt (and as yet not officially confirmed) cancellation and the challenges Stenberg, Turner-Smith, and others, including John Boyega, have faced.

  • The author observes that “actors of color are cast in Star Wars projects and are immediately made vulnerable to vicious bigotry. ” We at Youtini love these characters and hope to see Mother Aniseya back on screen soon!

What Was Released: A big week in the publishing world as Star Wars dropped not one, but SEVEN amazing new additions for our bookshelves:

  • Vader’s Castle: Revisit the scariest place in the galaxy in this Dark Horse comic classic collection.

What Will Be Reimagined: Last week’s fundraiser for Rancho Obi-Wan quietly revealed galaxy-changing news that has rocked the Youtinian in all of us!

  • Steve Sansweet announced that he has teamed up with the owners of The Sithsonian, the Imperial Archives, and Bobacabana.

  • The four collections plan to merge into one incredible Saga Museum with over 1.5 million pieces!

  • The team has already begun researching an appropriate location. San Francisco, with its many connections to Lucasfilm, is one of the candidates.

We’re all fine here now - how are you? Phew! Take a combined deep breath, then scroll back to the top and re-read the best news week ever! Then head over to Discord and tell us EVERYTHING! We can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
