Star Wars Publishing September Releases 📚

The Acolyte not moving forward

Good Morning, Youtinians. Last week, we asked who you were most hopeful to see in Andor season 2 that hasn’t been revealed already. The results were very close between father and daughter, with Jyn and Galen Erso in the two top spots. Readers are most excited about Galen Erso, who scored 38% of the votes.

There are a ton of September Star Wars releases that we’re looking forward to, especially as lovers of the High Republic era! Here are the top 3 we can’t wait to get our hands on:

  • The Acolyte: Kelnacca by Cavan Scott and Marika Cresta: Though we don’t know much about this prequel one-shot comic yet, we won’t have to wait long to find out what’s in store. On September 4th, this comic will hit bookstore shelves, and we can’t wait to see what we learn about The Acolyte’s Wookiee Jedi Master. The High Republic era has already brought us so many incredible Wookiee Jedi stories, and this one will definitely be among them.

  • Thrawn: Alliances by Timothy Zahn and Jody Houser: Adapting the novel by the same name, this 4-issue miniseries comic releases as a collected trade paperback on September 17th! The years of the Empire’s reign over a galaxy far, far away are absolutely jam-packed with incredible stories, and Thrawn’s journey in that era is among the best of them.

  • The High Republic: Tears of the Nameless by George Mann: The second young adult book of Phase III comes out on September 24th, and the cover alone is reason enough to get us excited! It seems like this will finally bring us the fateful return of Reath Silas to the main character limelight. Faced with the Nameless and the intense fear that apparently only fallen Jedi Azlin Rell understands, we’ll see Reath test his research in this novel. It can’t come soon enough!

We're all fine here now — how are you? These are just a few of the Star Wars reads we can’t wait to check out next month. Take a look at the Youtini Release Schedule to stay up to date on all things Star Wars publishing!

The Acolyte Not Moving Forward

Deadline was the first to report that The Acolyte will not proceed into a second season. Since that article, other major trade publications have confirmed the same through their sources. Lucasfilm and Disney have not officially confirmed the reports; however, fans can see the writing on the wall. The decision is apparently due to the show's high cost and the drop in viewership over the season.

Hopes for season 2. Cast members have stated that they are still on board. Lee Jung-jae and Manny Jacinto both expressed their wish to continue their roles into season two.

Even the show's creator, Leslie Headland, wants to continue after a well-earned break. As we know, she has already plotted a second season and outlined the story's direction.

While this alone is not enough to convince the show to return, it is a glimmer of hope that something could change in the future, as we have seen canceled projects brought back.

Fans Response. The show has been polarizing, with some vocalizing their taste for it while others have given valid constructive criticism in several ways. Despite all of the negative responses, there have been many positive responses and reactions. Leading up to the recent development, #RenewtheAcolyte trended on X (formerly known as Twitter). Now, a petition is circulating with a new hashtag, #RevivetheAcolyte.

Jude Law’s Character: Jedi or Not?

We are beginning to learn more about Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. As each little gem of information emerges, our excitement increases tenfold! So when Rotten Tomatoes sat down with Jude Law to talk details of the new show, our ears were wide open and ready to soak up every last snippet.

Show Summary: The show focuses on the New Republic era, after Episode VI and before Episode VII, and introduces the wild explorations of a group of kids who become lost in the Star Wars galaxy. They meet new friends and battle new foes while on a desperate mission to find a way home.

Let’s Dive into Jude Law’s Character

  1. His Name: The awesome character's name came thanks to a LEGO leak months ago; however, in his chat, Jude reveals that he plays a character named ‘Jod’ and then drops, “Well, that’s one of his names.” We now know that the character’s name is Jod Na Nawood.

  2. His Take: The story is Amblin-inspired (meaning 1980s kids films like Gremlins, Back to the Future, E.T., and Who Framed Roger Rabbit) and set in the Star Wars universe. The kids meet and rely on him to help them find their way back home, but should they really trust him? Ultimately, Jude explains that he is “Part of the crew” and Jod is “full of contradictions.”

  3. The Kids: Jude explained that the story is told through the eyes of the kids, and this transported him back to the time when he watched the original trilogy in theaters as a young kid. This is WOW! He hopes we all have a similar love for this new show and even allow it to change lives, especially our younger Youtinians!

  4. The Lore Connections: With both new and familiar species and characters, and name-dropping of known Star Wars favorites, Jude explains that “People will recognize” faces and moments, even with some little tweaks.

  5. The Directors: Jon Watts was really challenged to create a sense of risk and jeopardy for the kids. David Lowery brings the “magic,” while the Daniels (Kwan and Scheinert) bring a fun, “left-of-field” episode that is really moving. Bryce Dallas Howard was all about collaboration and bringing the cast together, and Lee Isaac Chung had Jude laughing the most. Jake Schreier directs one of the best episodes. “Really brilliant!” exclaims Law.

We cannot wait for the premiere of Skeleton Crew. What do you think about Jude Law’s character so far? Do you think he’s a Jedi?
