Ewan McGregor Honored With Walk of Fame ⭐

A tribute to comic artist, John Cassaday

Good Morning Youtinians. At Youtini we are still playing Outlaws and experiencing the story and discovering lore connections. Last week, we asked if you were planning to buy it and a majority of voters said they would buy it when it goes on sale.

Star Wars has lost two iconic people in the last couple of weeks: actor James Earl Jones and artist/writer John Cassaday. We want to take a few moments to discuss some of the incredible contributions Cassaday made to Star Wars during his illustrious career.

Star Wars (2015): Way back in 2015, John Cassaday and Jason Aaron brought Star Wars back to Marvel with the release of what is still one of our absolute favorite series: Star Wars (2015). If you enjoy Star Wars books but haven’t gotten into the comics yet, this series is a perfect place to start. It follows our familiar heroes from the Original Trilogy and takes place between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back.

After a 25-year stint with Dark Horse, seeing Cassaday’s Star Wars art in a Marvel comic book was incredible for readers of the brand-new Canon. This comic is John Cassaday’s legacy for Star Wars readers, and it is one that we continue to go back to and talk about almost a decade after its release.

Other Popular Comics: Outside of Star Wars, Cassaday is most known for his work on Planetary, a beloved comic he created alongside Warren Ellis, and the 2004 run of Astonishing X-Men, which he worked on alongside Joss Whedon. These comics will continue entertaining readers for many years, carrying on Cassaday’s legacy to new comic fans and young artists.

We're all fine here now — how are you? Have you read Star Wars (2015)? If not, we highly recommend checking it out to dive into the incredible nostalgia of adventuring around the galaxy with Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewie!

Ewan McGregor Day in Hollywood

The day that actors all around the world hope for arrived for our very own second generation Obi-Wan Kenobi. Yes, Youtinians, ‘old hermit’ was honored for his amazing contribution to the film industry over 30 years by being awarded a star on the ‘Hollywood Walk of Fame’ and there was only one, sought of, Imp in sight!

A ‘Star’: The Walk of Fame runs for around a mile on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, from Gower Street to the Hollywood and La Brea Gateway. From 1960 onwards, superb pink terrazzo pavers with five-point stars have been laid underfoot, each with a Hollywood legend's name and an emblem that symbolizes their main achievement in the industry: motion pictures, broadcast television, audio recording/music, broadcast radio, theatre/live performance, and sports entertainment.

There are more than 2,700 stars, but far more have been nominated. A ceremony can only take place after a successful nomination, the actor agreeing, and the physical star being ‘sponsored’ (US$75,000 fee).

Star Wars Stars: Ewan joins five very big Star Wars names already on the ‘Walk,’ with Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Alec Guinness, Carl Weathers, and Carrie Fisher (posthumously) already being honored. We hope that George Lucas, Ray Stevenson, and the legendary James Earl Jones, among many other Star Wars luminaries, may also be honored in the future.

The Ceremony: The occasion was a family affair with Hera Syndulla (Ewan’s second wife, Mary Elizabeth) and their children, daughters Clara, Jamyan, Anouk, and son Laurie (Esther, his second daughter, who played Tetha Grig in the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series, was unable to attend). They were also joined by filmmaker Mike Mills, who previously worked with McGregor, and hundreds of fans.

The Good and the Bad: The guest that meant the most to us was his apprentice and partner in the Force, Hayden Christensen. His speech was touching, including:

“My friend, Ewan. I want to thank you for being the best Jedi Master that anyone could’ve ever hoped for. You always had my back, and I thank you for that. I'm just so happy that I get to be here with you and swing a lightsaber with you. And more than anything, to call you my friend. I love you, brother.”

Both actors also reflected on their first meeting in Australia for the filming of Episode II, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, when Ewan provided “the biggest hug,” and the rest, as they say, is history. We at Youtini join the fandom in congratulating Ewan McGregor and thanking him for his unforgettable contribution to our favorite galaxy far, far away.
